Those who know something in relation to BigCommerce must have heard about the use of its Stencil for the theme option. In simple words, Stencil Framework is a bigger approach to BigCommerce than changes the theme and the front-end development. It is preferably used by the developers to create a custom interface and fully utilize the BigCommerce platform’s back-end capabilities.
The Unique functioning of Stencil in Big Commerce –
There are three components that have the feature of providing an effective template. The code that is run for the front-end development is custom and made for the following –
- The options of front-end development that is productive.
- The involvement of local development to increase the workflow of effective development.
- The language is effective that involves templates.
Thus, the stencil framework on BigCommerce is an attempt to provide the same features that we have already listed.
With the use of Stencil on BigCommerce, you’ll be able to setup code files on the local server. Moreover, you can publish the changes that will be synced with the live database on BigCommerce. Also, developers are able to get access to the benefits of a hosted platform with Stencil. It will be in the form of a reusable template which can be known as “Cornerstone.” The developers can use the template and utilize it as a base to make a custom template that they can download. Furthermore, they (developers) can make their own changes and upload it as a template that is custom in BigCommerce.
The JavaScript hooks support the options for front-end development. The developers can take advantage of local environments and implement custom designs. It will be done on the default template, which is Cornerstone.
The default templating language that Stencil uses is Handlebars. It allows the developers to create pages that are lightweight on HTML. It is enacted by writing logical expressions inside the HTML syntax. With the use of Handlebars, there will be rapid development, and also, it will enable cross-referencing, which will be easier. It will happen between the templates through the <script> tag, which is the default option.
Big Commerce Stencil Theme Development
The development theme of BigCommerce includes the following components –
- Local Server – Windows or Linux
- Stencil CLI (Command Line Interface)
- Merchant’s account on BigCommerce
The customized form of BigCommerce Stencil Theme Development is a simple process that involves the use of a Cornerstone theme. It works as a base and makes changes inside the template files by making developer copies of the pages in the template.
With the use of the Cornerstone theme, the developers will be able to save much time in coding as it comes with key elements. Furthermore, it will be easier to load the features in the theme of an E-Commerce template.
It will be inclusive of the following in the modification of the template for – brands, products, categories, and web content pages. Thus, it is an approach that helps developers to have better control while making the changes in the custom template. It will avoid redundancies and have a clear version of the E-Commerce template.
